This is an animation about capital punishment in ‘Joseon dynasty’ ruled the Korean peninsula from 1392 to 1910. It expressed 4 types of capital punishments that cut, boiled, confined, and buried. These punishment described in the animation is actual punishment in Joseon dynasty. There were much cruel punishments than we ever imagined in the Middle ages in any country. The Korean peninsula was not an exception. There actually were capital punishments that cut, boil, confine, and bury prisoners in middle age’s Joseon in Korean peninsula. This is very cruel and horrible, but Hwang thought that describing those cruel punishments as euphemistically and lightly would be fun. Therefore, he worked on character image with simple and light feeling, also used vivid colors. In addition, he split screen frame, and maximized the close-up effect of the body part. It was his attention to describe cruel material witty and lightly by using Gypsy feeling witty BGM and ordinary sounds of real life such as sound of cutting a paper or boiling water sound. [cut] Cut the Nose, Finger, Achilles tendon. [boiled] Boil in boiling water. [confined] Confine in a sealed wooden box. [buried] Bury the murderer under the corpse(killed by murderer). These penalties were actually exist.
