Drifting Snow

Snow drifting over the barren landscape of the badlands of Mörðurdalsöræfi í north east Iceland. It snowed heavily in north Iceland the week before we went there and most roads where closed for days. Going from the east fjords to Mývatn one has to pass a highland road through an arctic desert and this was the road most often closed. Fortunately the road opened the day we passed through. Although not very interesting in general there where some patches of land where all the snow had been blown away and one could see the wind blowing drifting snow across the landscape. This turned out to be quite interesting to photograph. The wind speed was just right as the drifts reached about 1/2 to 1 meter height. If it had been any higher it would have been impossible to photograph as the drifting snow would have covered lens glass and filters quite quickly.
