Egypt: army general calls for mass rallies

General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has appealed to Egyptians to turn out in force on Friday and endorse the army's mandate to confront violence.

Speaking on state television at a military graduation ceremony the man who deposed President Mohamad Mursi said there would be no retreat from the army-backed roadmap and added he believed there would be parliamentary elections in about six months.
