Detroit Rock City: passenger smokes crack on DDOT bus

2013-10-03 1 Dailymotion

Detroit isn't called the Rock City for nothing. An angry passenger on a Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) posted a video up on YouTube last week showing a fellow passenger whipping out and lighting up a crack pipe in the middle of the day while on the bus.

In the video, at one point another passenger asks the crackhead to put the pipe out. The man thought it would be a better idea to yell back at the passenger and then proceed smoking more crack in front of everybody.

Finally, the bus driver stopped the bus and told the crackhead to get off. The man refused and the driver then called for help. The crackhead eventually got off the bus after another passenger gave him a cigarette in exchange.
Bus union leaders at AFL-CIO Local 26 said the bus driver acted appropriately considering the unusual situation. DDOT drivers are no stranger to trouble. According to the union, DDOT buses are a battle zone for drivers. Union President Fred Westbrook said that in the past 10 months, eight bus drivers have been hospitalized and several others have been assaulted.

DDOT bus drivers are currently planning a rally. Operators think the lack of bus service could be one of the main reasons there has been an increase in assaults. Bus drivers want the attacks stopped in addition to cleaner and safer buses for passengers and drivers.
