Sucker punch: charity softball game turns into drunken brawl

2013-10-04 27 Dailymotion

A charity softball game for burn victims in Delaware over the weekend turned into a drunken brawl involving volunteer firefighters, and a wife of the Dagsboro Fire Department captain breaking the Port Penn fire chief's nose, police said.

Cameo A. Blades, 23, was hit with a third-degree assault and disorderly conduct because she charged across the field and sucker-punched Port Penn Fire Chief Brad Speakman. Speakman said the hit broke his nose. Court records do not name Speakman, but Brad confirmed in an interview he was the one the got clocked.

Dagsboro captain Brandon Blades, 28, got slapped with disorderly conduct for instigating the fight during the annual Seaford Fire Department Burn Camp Softball Tournament. Police said Brandon's blood alcohol level was 0.151, almost twice the legal limit for driving. Cameo Blades and Speakman had BAL of 0.08 percent.

The fight started near a dugout around 6pm Saturday at the Jays Nest sports complex on North Market Street. Brandon Blades told police that the two teams were "trash talking" and he challenged one guy to fight "one-on-one." Brandon then said he was hit from behind. Witnesses however, say Brandon instigated the fight.

One witness said Cameo Blades was put into a headlock at some point and thrown to the ground. Cameo also found the time to rush the fire chief from behind and bust his nose during the drunken brawl. Speakman said that he was coaching third base and saw the fight, but when he got there it had already broken up. He was heading back to the coaching box when Cameo snuck up on him.

The things people will do for charity.
