Women drown in car after being rescued from Maine forest

2013-10-08 1 Dailymotion

A sad series of events has resulted in the drowning deaths of two women in Maine, USA. Mother of one, Melissa Moyer, 38, was visiting her friend Amy Stiner, 37, who was five months pregnant. The pair were hiking in Roque Bluffs State Park, Maine, when they became disoriented. They called for help and were found by off-duty firefighter Wayne Hansom, who transported the Moyer and Stiner to his house and called a warden to come pick them up. The two women and Stiner's dog had just been dropped off by the warden when they got in Stiner's minivan and drove directly off a boat ramp. Police believe that the thick fog and unfamiliarity with the streets in the area caused Stiner to take a wrong turn.

She called 911 as the car was sinking but the call was cut off before she could tell police where they were. When rescue diver, Travis Preston, eventually located their vehicle 170 feet out in the water, it was too late for Stiner, Moyer, and the dog as well. Occupants of the town of 300 said nothing like this accident had happened in the area before. Relatives of Stiner and Moyer went to the site of the accident to lay wreaths and mourn the loss of their loved ones.
