Starbucks announced that over the next 5 years they’re committed to hiring 10 thousand veterans as well as the spouses of soldiers in active duty.

The company’s Chief Community Officer stressed that the plan is not a charity initiative. He said, “This is an endeavor predicated on us genuinely needing the skills veterans offer.”

As the coffee chain expands its stores into other countries, they are in need of the unique skill set many veterans possess.
Among them are familiarity with other cultures, a knowledge of numerous languages, and experience working with international associates.

Robert Gates, a Starbucks board director and former US Defense Secretary, identified veterans as being one of the most underutilized talent pools in the nation.

Specialized hiring personnel have been recruited to ensure those talents are put to the best use.

Positions needing to be filled include those in the areas of supply chain and team leadership.

Starbucks is partnering with local non-profit organizations in several locations that help those returning from duty re-integrate into the work force.

Portions of all sales at several stores located near military bases will be donated to help support the mission.
