'FIFA, pay my fare!': Brazilians protest transport hikes in Rio de Janeiro

2014-02-01 11 Dailymotion

The protesters jumped barriers at Central Station in Rio singing "FIFA, pay my fare!" and expressed outrage at the mounting public cost of hosting the World Cup. Some donned superhero outfits as scenes resembling a street party kicked off when protesters jumped the barriers, played drums and waved flags. They also chanted "There will be no World Cup."

Outside the station, a man dressed as Batman was detained by police. He said: "This is a ridiculous law, I just came here to protest peacefully and I'm arrested for it." In Brazil, it is forbidden to wear gear that covers the face during a demonstration. Another protester dressed as Spider-Man was also detained.
