Japanese woman snatched and confined for ten hours on Tokyo's road

A Japanese woman in her 20s was kidnapped by the two men who confined her in their car for 10 hours. The incident took place on the evening of January 15 when the victim was walking home in a residential part of Tokyo's Edogawa Ward. Two men grabbed the woman and bundled her into a car. They bound her hands and feet and stole the equivalent of US$1,000 in cash as well as her ATM cards. They also obtained the passwords for her ATM cards, and later withdrew the equivalent of US$7,000 from ATM machines at convenience stores in Saitama and Chiba prefectures.

The kidnappers told the woman to be prepared to pay them another 1 million yen, or about US$10,000. Ten hours later, they released her near Gyotoku Station in Ichikawa Chiba. The car and license plate used by the kidnappers were both stolen.The kidnappers have yet to contact the victim about the extra 1 million yen. Police are launching a search for the whereabouts of the pair on suspicion of robbery, abduction and confinement.
