Caught on camera: Bus driver smacks student in the face with a broom

An Indianapolis school bus driver was suspended after footage of her hitting a student with a broom was leaked to the press. In the video, 47-year-old Charlotte McDaniel was seen hitting 14-year-old Autumn Bonilla in the face with a broom.

Just before the incident, McDaniel was disciplining another student when Bonilla started cursing at the bus driver. "She told me I had to put my phone away, and I told her I wasn't putting anything away. Then, we started cussing at each other," Bonilla said.

Things turn physical when McDaniel is seen on the footage being pinned down by Bonilla, right before she hit Bonilla on her temple with a broom.

"I didn't know what I got hit with at first," said Bonilla. She almost blacked out, but stayed conscious as the driver held her down.

"I completely 100 percent admit that I started it. I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. I did start it. But that don't give a grown woman a reason to put her hands on me at all," reflected Bonilla.

Bonilla was since pulled out of school by her mother, Karen Bonilla, who wants the bus driver punished. "I couldn't believe that an adult would hit a child like that," said Karen.

McDaniel has been placed on leave pending an investigation.
