Peter Dinklage: motorcyclist hit by car as he stares at Game of Thrones star

2014-02-28 3 Dailymotion

Because he stands at just 4 feet, two inches tall and is a famous television and movie star, Peter Dinklage is used to getting stared at. But one such encounter on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles proved to be particularly memorable for the Game of Thrones star, because the man who was staring at him died.

In an interview in the newly published March edition of Esquire magazine, Dinklage told of the encounter which occurred just after he made it big for his role in the 2003 film The Station Agent. He was walking down Melrose Avenue when a man on a motorcycle stopped and started staring at him. After getting a good look, the motorcyclist rode off into traffic and was hit by an oncoming car.

Dinklage ran to a cafe to call for help but the motorcyclist died at the scene.

"I was walking down Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. There was this guy on a motorcycle right in front of me ... maybe six feet? And he looked at me. He didn't wave, but he looked at me, and then he pulled out into traffic and this car, like, boom — killed him instantly," Dinklage said. "I was the last person he saw on earth."

Dinklage said he felt an emotional connection with the man.

"There was this quiet moment where it was like I was the only person in the world who knew this guy was dead. And I was there looking at him, you know, in those moments of calm after something horrible happens, the calm before the melee starts, before the ambulances and the cops arrive and it becomes a scene. There was that moment when I was with him," he said.
