A group of two adults and four children who were feared dead after they went missing in the Seven Troughs Range of Nevada on Sunday (December 8) have been found alive and well. The six, included James Glanton, 36, his girlfriend Christina McIntee, 25, their two children Evan and Chloe Glanton, and Shelby Fitzpatrick and Tate McIntee, a niece and nephew of Christina McIntee. The children ranged in age from 3 to 10.

The group drove up into the remote part of Nevada for some snow play, but as they drove along the frozen road trails, their jeep skidded off the road, careened down an embankment and flipped over, coming to rest on its roof.

Upon discovering that the family had not returned as scheduled, authorities were notified and a search and rescue operation involving branches of the U.S. Navy and Air Force as well as several hundred volunteers began.

In temperatures that dropped to well below freezing, the six survivors burned the jeep's spare tire for warmth and ate and drank the small amount of food supplies contained in the vehicle.

After rescuers managed to triangulate the missing woman's cell phone signal, rescue team members were diverted to search a specific area and at around noon on Tuesday, a rescuer spotted the jeep while scouring the hillsides with binoculars.

Doctors say the group was lucky to have suffered only mild exposure, but no frostbite and family and friends of the six are rejoicing in the story's happy ending.

The Seven Troughs Range of Nevada is over 2,200 meters above sea level. Experts said their lives were likely saved by their decision to stay with their vehicle.
