China to decommission millions of polluting cars

It’s a radical move, but China is to scrap six million cars that do not meet exhaust emission standards by the end of the year in a bid to improve air quality.

A further five million are to be decommissioned next year.

Fighting pollution has become a priority for the government as they try to reverse decades of damage linked to rapid manufacturing growth.

In addition experts are calling for upgrades in fuels, which can also help reduce air pollution and smog.
