Masiela Lusha - Today Is Falling

Today is falling, Oliver.
Gray wind falls, time falls, the heavy
Truth falls with the clouds.
And it happens now: my understanding
The cold acceptance
On how we fell from one another
Eight quiet days ago.

Our distance sits by my feet,
And my heart falls for you—
And her waving tail of decorated memories
Follow her faithfully, closely.
Attached. Your past grins,
Attached to every falling expression
Around me. Your past pleasure
Traced on my walls—stained
By pure retrospect.

My heart is lost in a deep corner inside me
Invading me, disturbing me,
Calling herself a home in a quiet
Territory of sadness—undiscovered
Until now.

My heart abandoned me to find you.
I lost her, just as I lost you, my lover
Quietly and quickly. Sharply.
And now numbly. Do you remember?

And now I breathe. My inhaled air falls
Hard through me—and I breathe again.
I breathe until I swell with halted sighs
Burning to rise instead of fall. Just once now.

It could rain today, Oliver.
The outside silence calls a certain change
In nature—it most certainly could rain.
I welcome it heavy through the clouds
And here I would fall with the rain.
My entire measure accompanies
Falling nature and all her dropping hopes.
I can be one with the rain. Inside and out.

My heavy gray cat, with changing eyes,
Still marked with your hands,
Buries her attention
Into this precise darkness inside me.

She falls to my feet by choice, my cat.
Her two round shining plates of content
Rise up clear above my face
And she rolls a hymn of dry calm—

She watches the room fill with rain
And she rises and moves away
Seeking a release from this drowning day.
