I was so sure you would be the weak one
Even at birth you were so very small
Not long after a year you became sick
I feared it was time for Jesus to call

I felt helpless watching you while you slept
My prayers at night only asked to spare you
How could I survive without my baby
My heart would only last a day or two

After time you showed me how strong you were
You were too rotten and ornery to lose
Inside you is more courage than I have
All things in this life are yours if you choose

If only I knew just how to tell you
My heart belongs to you and your brother
And my entire life has been worthwhile
Thank you Lord for making me a mother
