Tortoises can be seen in all sorts of places – zoos, nature preserves, and, apparently, just roaming around the streets of a Los Angeles suburb.

The 150-pound creature no doubt raised some eyebrows as it sauntered around a neighborhood in Alhambra.

It’s unclear how long it was out and about, but one woman reported that she saw it, “eating grass and leaves and moving at a fast clip.”

Somebody called the police, and shortly after a not-so-high speed chase ensued.

The capture was successful, but animal control didn’t have a cage big enough for it, so they just let it roam around the facility.

Thankfully, its owners were quick to show up and take it home.

It turns out the tortoise escaped from a back yard while the family was at a ball game.

The state of California does have some measures in place to ensure turtles and such don’t end up in places they’re not supposed to be.

Among them is prohibiting the sale of any under 4-inches in length as they can end up going down the toilet and into the sewer system.
