Snow capped mountain ranges, Ladakh. Ladakh lies between the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the main Great Himalayas to the south. Ladakh is the highest plateau of the Indian state of Kashmir with much of it being over 3,000 m (9,800 ft). It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Kashmir. Ladakh is a land of snow carved peaks, translucent Lakes, barren terrain and mystic culture. Ladakh has a population of about 260,000 which is a blend of many different races.
