Arlington’s county board has approved a proposal that will allow the area’s schools to equip their busses with cameras that record illegally passing drivers.

Not only is it dangerous and illegal, as of February 1st it will be a pretty inescapable violation.
Arlington’s county board has approved a proposal that will allow the area’s schools to equip their student transport vehicles with cameras.
The devices are programmed to record any cars that illegally cross their paths, regardless of the direction of travel.
That image is then sent along to the police for confirmation.
The final step in the process is the printing and mailing of a 250-dollar ticket.
Money collected as a result of the new system will be given to Arlington Public Schools.
Over the past 5 years, over 700 violations have been handed to motorists caught in the act the traditional way.
Said an Arlington County Board member, “Too many times, drivers ignore the flashing lights and the side-mounted stop sign/signal arms, and drive right by stopped buses – endangering the kids who are getting out of those buses.”
