For the first time in more than two weeks -- clashes broke out between police and pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong.

It happened early Thursday morning in Mong Kok, one of three remaining protest sites in the city.

Dozens of police armed with batons and shields moved into the area occupied by hundreds of protesters.

According to a local broadcaster, it started when police were taking away one protester. The report said he fell to the ground while surrounded by police and when he came up his face was covered in blood.

The demonstrators who've been in the streets for more than a month want the right to choose their own leader in the 2017 election.
