The Global African - Brazilian Presidential Elections

2014-11-07 3 Dailymotion

Each week on “The Global African” host Bill Fletcher, Jr. addresses issues facing Africa and the African Diasporas. In the recently concluded Brazilian presidential elections, voters returned Workers' Party standard bearer and incumbent Dilma Rousseff to office for a second term. Brazil's Afro-descendant population, the largest outside of the African continent, voted by a broad majority for Rousseff. Today's program takes a look at the significance of the Brazilian elections both for that country as well as Latin America as a whole. Fletcher interviews writer Brian Mier, who has lived in Brazil for 20 years, and Mark Weisbrot, co-founder and co-director of the progressive think-tank Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) for their views and outlook on today's Brazil. teleSUR
