Romania sees protests ahead of elections

In Romania, thousands of people have taken to the streets to demand fair voting in the second round of the presidential elections.

The protest comes after many Romanians living abroad found themselves unable to vote before the ballot closed in the first round of the elections because of bureaucrat hurdles and huge queues.

It is estimated that up to four million Romanians live abroad, most of them in Europe. In response, the government says it has increased the number of polling booths in their embassies abroad.

The next president will play a pivotal role in appointing the next prime minister.
