Massive demonstrations in Mexico prompt immediate reactions

2014-11-22 2 Dailymotion

November 20, tens of thousands of Mexicans took to the streets on a protest march to the the country's main square, Mexico City's Zocalo plaza, to continue demanding that the 43 Ayotzinapa teacher's college students kidnapped by corrupt police in Iguala on September 26 be returned alive. The mobilization ended with repression carried out by police forces who used water cannons and tear gas to break up the lawful demonstrations. The clashes left 31 people detained, and several injured. Pro-government media has attempted to diminish the importance of the protests and the numbers of participants, focusing on the few acts of vandalism committed by masked, hooded members of the crowd whom the protesters claim were government 'infiltrators', planted to give authorities an excuse to enter otherwise pacific demonstrations and turn them violent. teleSUR
