De Blasio urges frustrated New Yorkers to work for change

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters on Thursday (November 4) that those frustrated with the result of the Staten Island grand jury decision not to indict an officer in the chokehold death of an unarmed African American man should use that frustration to work for positive change.

At a news conference at a new training facility for the New York Police Department, de Blasio said that changes were already underway within the department, including on the city's controversial stop-and-frisk policy, its handling of low-level marijuana possession incidents and more.

He said the policy changes were part of the city's need to improve relations between the police and the community.

His comments came a day after the grand jury cleared New York Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the death of Eric Garner, who died after being restrained during a arrest attempt in July.
