In a matter of days, a fundraiser to aid the family torn apart when pieces of a plane crashed into their Gaithersburg, Maryland home has brought in over 300 thousand dollars.

On December 8th Marie Gemmell was at home with her children Devin and Cole.

Her daughter Arabelle was at school, and her husband Ken was at work.

For reasons still under investigation, a small aircraft attempting to land at a nearby airport crashed in a yard close to the family’s home.

A wing carrying a significant amount of jet fuel broke off of the craft and ripped through the side of the Gemmell’s house.

According to authorities, the combination of fuel, oxygen, and flames set off an intense blaze that spread quickly.

Marie and her two children, who appear to have taken refuge in a bathroom, are believed to have succumbed to smoke inhalation within minutes.

Friends of the Gemmell’s set up a page on GoFundMe, asking for donations to assist the surviving family members in their time of tragedy.

In just two days, the 400 thousand dollar goal was near being met.
