US sanctions aimed at Venezuelan gov't officials

The sanctions against Caracas signed into law on Thursday by US President Barack Obama enable Washington to freeze assets and deny or cancel visas for past or present Venezuelan officials who the US deems to have violated human rights for having acted to put an end to violent right-wing opposition protests earlier this year that sought to destabilize the country.
