Forensic Treasures - The Devils Laughter (1959) - One Step Beyond

Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond (also known as One Step Beyond) is an American anthology series created by Merwin Gerard. The original series ran for three seasons on ABC from January 1959 to July 1961.

In this episode authorities are having trouble with convicted killer John Marriott: they can't seem to execute him. Legislative powers work to free him arguing he has suffered enough and argue cruel and unusual punishment.

After he is freed the Brother of the murder victim tries to kill him, but his gun fails to shoot.

The Drunken killer then visits a zoo a night and mocks a Lion inside his cage poking at him with stick and challenging him to kill him. The Lion is bothered by the harassment and the Bobbies show up and chase after him for being in the park after hours.

In the chase the Killer, falls down a stone hard stairway and breaks his neck and dies. The moral of the story is that accidents happen when justice fails.
