Anyone intending to pay a visit to the Smithsonian’s museums and gardens and go wild taking selfie stick assisted photos will have to come up with a new plan, as the accessory has been banned.

The venerated institution has banned the use of the telescoping camera accessory. 

It now joins tripods and monopods as photographic equipment that is not to be used either indoors or on the grounds of the Smithsonian’s public properties. 

The prohibition is based in concerns about damage that could be done to both fellow visitors and the valuable, often irreplaceable objects and displays, particularly at times when the facilities are crowded. 

Selfies in general are still allowed, and both the taking and sharing of them are encouraged.
