On anniversary of Exxon Valdez oil spill, activists fear new disaster

2015-03-25 1 Dailymotion

This week marks the 26th anniversary of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill that dumped over 11 million gallons of crude oil into the sea, destroying hundreds miles of Alaska's coastline and killing thousands of seabirds and hundreds of sea otters, seals, bald eagles and orca whales. Environmental activists are concerned about permits that Shell Oil now has to drill in the Arctic Ocean. They cite a study indicating a 75% chance that a large spill could occur there. Despite potential risks the Department of the Interior is expected to approve exploration plans this week. Alexandra Hall reports from Washington for teleSUR
