Colombia: 10 Soldiers Killed in Alleged Rebel Attack

Ten Colombian soldiers were killed and 15 wounded in an ambush allegedly perpetrated by a mobile unit of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The soldiers were on an operation late Tuesday night to control territory in the Buenos Aires municipality in the southwest state of Cauca. The military and the state governor have confirmed the attack, but members of Congress and other political figures have urged caution until all the facts are in. President Juan Manuel Santos will be travelling to the area today to investigate what occurred. Both the FARC and supporters of the peace process stressed that a bilateral cease-fire, as advocated by the rebels, is the only way to avoid such skirmishes in the future.
