Survival skills: climber forced to eat worms for thirteen days after surviving mountain accident

2015-05-12 18 Dailymotion

A 43-year-old climber managed to survive for nearly two weeks eating worms, insects and plants after tumbling down one of China's most famous peaks late last month.

The mountaineer, identified only by the name Ah Hong, ventured to Mount Tai in China's eastern Shandong province on June 27th, hoping to ascend the mountain, considered sacred in the country.

He accidentally slipped off the edge of the mountain and landed with such force, the impact left him unconscious for three days.

When he regained consciousness, Hong discovered all he had left stored in his backpack was a single bottle of water and a few snacks.

Over the next few days, Hong was forced to survive on plants, a variety of insects and worms.

He reportedly even resorted to drinking muddy, insect-filled water to avoid dehydration.

On Wednesday morning, Hong came across a park ranger the next morning as he was collecting nuts to eat for breakfast. Paramedics later arrived and carried him down the mountain.

Hong's 13-day ordeal in the wild left him 33 pounds lighter and suffering multiple fractures to his right ankle, lumbar spine and his ribs.
