Surveillance footage captured video of a police officer running over a 22-year-old soldier who was lying in the middle of the road in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday.

Emanuel Andrade is a 22-year-old soldier who served in Afghanistan but was at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. According to Andrade's wife, he was hanging out with some friends earlier that evening.

He first attempted to get into a vehicle parked on the 600 block of North Fife Street. He then stepped out of the vehicle and lay down in the street.

Tacoma police said the officer was driving slowly, checking for prowlers and looking down at his computer screen he drove over the soldier. Andrade was wearing dark colored clothes and the officer didn't have a clue that he had just hit someone.

Andrade sustained several broken bones and is currently in hospital. The officer is taking a few days off. The father of two was scheduled to be discharged from the military on July 4.
