A domestic helper was arrested on Sunday in northern Taiwan after allegedly brutally killing a local shop owner.
The suspect, a Filipino national identified only by his Chinese name, Dawen, reportedly visited the victim's shop last Saturday hoping to borrow some money. The shop owner, surnamed Lin, however, refused to lend the 28-year-old any.
Wielding a hammer Dawen reportedly smashed the 39-year-old's head repeatedly before picking up a single metal chopstick and proceeding to stab the back of Lin's neck more than 150 times. Lin succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
Dawen next tied up the shop owner's wife and two sons before taking the dead man's cell phone and fleeing the shop.
Lin's wife eventually managed to break free and rushed to a nearby convenience store for help. Police eventually caught up to Dawen and arrested him.
Investigators soon discovered that Lin had reportedly been running an underground bank for foreign workers and that there may have been a financial dispute between him and the suspect.
