An 81-year-old New Haven, Connecticut man was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the shin after the old man fell out of his chair while waiting to shoot a tormenting raccoon.
Police said that James Pace Sr. shot himself while waiting for a raccoon that had been scratching at his back door for several days.
Pace told police that he fell out of his chair while holding a .22-caliber rifle after he sneezed.
He then realized that he accidentally shot himself, before securing the gun and locating his son, who then drove him to the hospital.
Police told local media that they have seized the weapon and are currently investigating the incident.
