Sepp Blatter announces he will resign as FIFA president

FIFA president Sepp Blatter stunned the soccer world Tuesday by announcing that he is resigning his post. Blatter was re-elected to his fifth four-year term on May 29, 2015 --- only two days after the unsealing of a 47-count indictment of nine FIFA executives and five other sports marketing officials. In a short speech at FIFA's Zurich headquarters, Blatter said he would give up the presidency as soon as what he called an "extraordinary elective congress" can be gathered to vote on a successor.
