FIFA meeting expected to release date for presidency election

FIFA officials have held their first meeting in Zurich since a corruption scandal tore through the world footballing body.

Seven FIFA officials were arrested in May as part of a US led probe into alleged large scale corruption and bribery.

It is expected the meeting will decide a date for the election of a new president, with a December date thought most likely.

The current FIFA president Sepp Blatter, is also expected to reveal his plans to reform the body.

Blatter made the shock announcement at the beginning of last month that he was going to step down

He has been in charge since 1998, and was newly elected for a fifth term in May when external pressure forced him to announce his resignation.

Among the front-runners is the current UEFA President Michel Platini.

The former French player and manager was once seen as a protege of Blatter but has turned to become one of his strongest critics within the organisation.
