A dramatic video of a man shooting a drone out of the sky in California, US has been revealed as an impressive hoax.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by Larry Breaux, a lemon farmer from Valencia earlier this month with the description: “Someone kept bothering me by flying their drone around my house and property, I decided to keep my 12-gague handy and when it came around I shot it.”

The footage – a combination of aerial footage from the drone and video captured from the ground – shows the drone hovering over Larry’s home before he comes outside and shoots it.

After generating interest online, Larry’s video was picked up by a number of news outlets that expressed an interest in telling his story.

However, online viewers and drone enthusiasts were quick to pick up on a number of inconsistencies in the video and quickly denounced it as a hoax.

Obvious anomalies include Larry’s shadow, which moves out-of-sync with the timeline of events and the shattered lens effect at the end of the footage which appeared to be added in post-production.

Further to this controversy, Larry has admitted to Newsflare that he faked the video (with the help of an accomplice) to try to generate viral interest and draw attention to his fundraising campaign to create an organic lemon farm – a billboard of which can be seen at the start of the footage.
