Denmark: Hoff heralds start of Gumball 3000\r
\r
Thousands of car fans braved heavy rain as cult celebrity David Hasselhoff waved off around 100 luxury and custom-made cars starting the Gumball 3000 rally in Copenhagen on Saturday.\r
\r
Shooting to fame in the 1980s for his role in the television show Knight Rider as a crime-fighter armed with AI-enhanced car KITT, the Hoff is a loyal Gumball 300 promoter, present at several past Gumball 300 rallies including 2012s Gumball 300 launch in New York City.\r
\r
Now in its 15th year, the Gumball 300 sees the cars depart Copenhagen on a 3000 mile trek across 13 countries, including stops in Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, and Austria before crossing the finish line in Monaco in around 6-days time. The route for the Gumball 3000 car rally changes annually.\r
\r
Well-known for presenting MTV car makeover show Pimp my Ride, US Rapper Xzibit was also on hand at the opening, alongside UK rapper Dizzee Rascal and skating legend Tony Hawk.\r
\r
Even though there will be no official winner, participants of the car rally paid an exorbitant $120,000 (€92,000) entrance fee and will be ranked according to speed, design originality and driving fines in individual categories online.\r

British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper founded the Gumball 3000 brand in 1999, transforming his love of cars into the worlds most prestigious car rally. A former model, he is also a fashion designer and an avid racing driver.
