Create a Mac folder protected by a password without using Disk utility or third party. Protéger un dossier Mac avec un mot de passe, sans utilisation de l'utilitaire de disque ou de logiciels tiers.

In OS X, except the System, no one can create a folder having permissions really protected from change when "permissions padlock" is locked.

Most of the time Permissions are always available for change even if the "permissions padlock" is locked.

Folder Access properties are available in "Permissions Section" of the folder. By example, "Permissions" need to be set as "dropbox, write only" or "access forbidden".After this we cannot enter into the folder.

But unfortunately, the closed padlock of "Permissions Section" is not protecting those "permissions rules" from change. We can back, click and restore permissions of the folder without unlocking the padlock.

However it's possible to bypass this situation by "stealing and replace" a specific folder stored in the Library Tree. By choosing a folder inherit from "Library folder" and having a padlock avoiding change of permissions when it is closed..

So, by using Mac OS X System Permissions at your advantage,
a special method (Video Description V1) allow the creation of a folder protected by a password on Mac. No need of third party software or disk utility. Protected disk image is not the only one solution...

How to proceed:

Step 1:
Go to Disk/Library/application support/
Select a Folder created by an external installed software..

Step 2:
Right click on this folder.
Verify in "share and permissions" section, if the padlock is locked
and if the privileges are not changeable (change your step1 folder choice if privileges are changeable with a closed padlock)

Step3:
Once you get the good folder (padlock locked + privileges not alterable)
a/ You can duplicate this folder (password asked by system)
b/ Rename the original Folder with a new name (password asked by system)
c/ Put the original old name to the new Folder copy (password asked by system). Necessary to do this for the program who is using the folder selected.

Step 4:
Unlock the padlock of the new named folder, the system will ask you the password for change change privileges (for folder access, files deposit..).

You can now authorize or restrict the access the for admin, system..etc. Folder privileges are protected by the password when clicking padlock.
Folder location cannot be changed. Files storage is not limited.
Search files is not allowed...

On your Mac, the password need to be created (filled) in the System Setting (password is always requested by the padlock)
