Join me in car 64 for a pretty hectic race around the short oval at Martinsville. As soon as I drove this track for the first time I had a feeling that the race would not be a good one for me and my misgivings were well founded. I even switched to the roof cam in an attempt to improve my chances.
(Once again there is no spotter and no announcer due to the PS3 audio bug in this game which seems to be pretty random, either not working at all or switching off in the middle of races, usually after a pit stop).
I qualified reasonably well but from the moment the lights went green the AI were beating me up and it felt more like a game of pinball than a motor race. Within three laps I went from the front of the pack to dead last - amazingly my car wasn't damaged so the first tenth of the race saw me playing tail end Charlie once again and trying to catch up to 42nd place. I was also struggling with a setup which had my car loose on the exit to Martinsville's tight turns.
By the mid point of the race I hadn't really made any progress at all, still scrapping outside the top 30 with all the other lapped backmarkers, at one point a full lap down. Then I wrecked Menard, triggering the first caution of the race. I'm only surprised it took that long and I guess it means there will be no Christmas card from the Menards this year!
