A robbery suspect in Volusia County, Florida attempted to evade capture by hiding in a pond and telling authorities the real thief “went that way,” reports WPEC.
On Saturday evening, 29-year-old Sean Torres allegedly walked up to a cashier at a store in Deltona and demanded money, notes WOFL.
When the staffer declined, Torres is said to have reached towards the back of his pants, as if grabbing a gun, but ended up running out the door.
In an aerial search for the suspect, authorities spotted someone in a nearby pond.
Deputies on the ground approached the individual, who was standing neck-deep in the water.
Torres told them he was fishing, his pole was beneath the surface, and that he’d seen someone fleeing in another direction.
According to WFTV, "[Torres] then surrendered and trudged back to shore, saying he didn't want to be bit by a K-9 dog..."
He was taken into to custody, and has since been jailed on charges of robbery and criminal mischief, with bail set at a total of $31,000.
