Citadel of defence: Radar station that protects Moscow from ballistic missile attack

The base protects the Russian capital from ballistic missile attacks. The Don-2N radar system comprises individual ultra-high frequency radars placed at each of its corners for an early warning of a possible attack on Moscow. The system, which is constantly in a state of full alert, is operated 24 hours a day. It can engage ICBMs at a range of 3,700 km (2,299 miles) and is run by an Elbrus-2 supercomputer.
