Why Alec Baldwin’s S.N.L. Trump Cameo Was Extra Sneaky This Week

This week’s episode of Saturday Night Live kicked off without the usual vision of Alec Baldwin smeared in the orange pancake makeup of President Donald Trump. In fact, as the sketch featuring Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat as recently engaged Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski continued, audiences may have wondered if this would be one of the weeks that Baldwin took off entirely. But then, in a stroke of genius, S.N.L. featured Baldwin on the other end of the Morning Joe phone line—as Trump “publicist” John Miller.

Those following the 2016 presidential election closely will remember that “John Miller” was one of the names Trump reportedly used when he allegedly posed as his own publicist pack in the early 1990s. That was the case again in this sketch, where Trump-as-Milller fumbled the meaning of Cinco de Mayo and revealed his ignorance over the new healthcare bill.
