The comments made by H. Raja of Bhajgam have become controversial to identify actor Vijay as 'Joseph Vijay' and to separate him as a Christian.

Currently Vijay's father SA Chandrasekar reacted to H. Raja's opinion. "Vijay's religion is Indian, I've put it at school as a casteian Indian, and now it's a childhood to identify his religion with one's name," he told a television channel.
