A stricken magpie has died after it was found tangled and injured in her fishing line-turned-nest in Melbourne. This June 25 video hows the bird.

Nigel Williamson, who runs Nigel’s Animal Rescue and Pest Control, had to scale a tree to reach the bird, which was entangled for hours.

“Magpie season has started early this year with entanglement. This female was building her nest and put fishing line into the nest. This is what happens with our rubbish.”

Wildlife rescuers WIRES says magpies use rubbish to line their nests.

“The nests are a basket of sticks and stems lined with wool, hair, grass and often bits of plastic, string and wire,” according to the group. Credit: Nigel’s Animal Rescue and Pest Control via Storyful
