As of this month, all residential washing machines imported to the U.S. will be subject to heavier tariffs.
Washer imports to the U.S. will now be subject to 50-percent tariffs after exceeding the import quota of one-point-two-million units.
Last February, the U.S. imposed a safeguard tariff-rate quota for washers, with imports under the quota subject to 20-percent tariffs and imports above the quota subject to the higher tariff rate of 50-percent.
Imports of washer parts also exceeded their quota of fifty-thousand in July and are now also subject to fifty percent tariffs.
