In a surprise move, the Civil aviation ministry has asked the current director general of civil aviation, E K Bharat Bhushan to step down, just a week after the Appointment's Committee of the Cabinet had approved the extension of his tenure till later this year. Although the civil aviation ministry has so far dismissed the move as routine, sources in the ministry indicated that the aviation minister, Ajit Singh had 'lost confidence' in Bhushan. The 1979 IAS officer's term had seen him preside over a turbulent period in the aviation industry, including irregularities in the licensing process of pilots.
