Varanasi: The Election Commission on Friday appointed Tamil Nadu's chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar for this crucial constituency from where Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will face Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and Congress's Ajay Rai as well as candidates of the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.
According to the official reports, Varanasi's district magistrate, who is also the returning officer of the constituency, would now be acting under the special observer.
This would ensure that only Kumar has the final say in matters relating to the constituency, thus taking care of BJP's concerns of alleged "lack of neutrality" of the returning officer.
