LEYTE - It's a heart-wrenching experience to head to Tacloban City in Leyte view Hilongos, Southern Leyte. We passed through different towns - Dulag, Tolosa, Tanauan and Palo - but they all looked the same. Destroyed homes, cars and furniture swept away by raging waters and bodies of the dead lined up along roads. Many of the fatalities were buried in makeshift graves in the center island of a highway. We had no food, no water and no relief packages only a camera and a microphone but residents still flocked to us. They said this was the first time they had a chance to let their relatives know they were still alive while others were not as lucky. Many of them also begged for help, saying they haven't had food and drinking water for four days now. When we reached the town of Palo, we saw vehicles and motorcycles locked in a traffic jam. We asked them where they were going. Their answer - they don't know. They just want to leave behind the death and destruction. They're looking for a safe place where there's food, water and shelter. Anywhere but here. Report by Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
