On the occasion of Durga Ashtami, Harsiddhi Mandir performed a "havan" which was followed by a symbolic sacrifice. The sacrifice or Bali was performed with an 'ash gourd' commonly known as 'pethe ka phal'. The horns and legs (made of wooden planks) were installed on the fruit and the face was painted from sindoor. Then symbolic bali was offered to the goddess by cutting the fruit in many pieces and pouring sindoor all over it. This symbolic Bali takes place due to the prohibition of killing animals in 'Sanatan Dharma' or 'Hinduism'.
