Moment robber hurls brick at display cabinet and steals 25k of gold jewellery in Thailand

This is the moment a brazen robber hurls a rock at a glass display cabinet to steal 25k of gold.

Shop assistants were preparing to close when the man threw the stone then leapt over the counter in Udon Thani, northeastern Thailand, last Monday (November 11) night.

CCTV footage shows a terrified saleswoman cowering behind the till covering her ears as the robber grabs several pieces of gold jewellery, weighing 29 ounces and worth more than one million baht (25,685 GBP)

The culprit was wearing a blue apron, a light brown hat and covering his face with a surgery mask.

Shop manager Nisara Sirisawat, 33, said that she saw the man approaching normally before throwing the rock.

She said: "I saw him walking to the shop front but then he threw a rock at the show case behind me and jumped across and grabbed as much as he could.

"The incident happened so quickly, he did not say anything to us and I did not see him carry any other weapon."

Supermarket security guard Pradit Kaewchin, who ran after the robber, said that he saw the man ride away on the getaway bike that was waiting for him at the supermarket entrance.

He said: "I was patrolling in the supermarket to check if everything was in order because it was closing soon.

"Then I heard glass breaking sound so I rushed to the sound origin and saw the robber running away. I followed him to the supermarket exit but he rode away in a getaway bike."

Police arrived to investigate and gathered evidence from the scene where they found several fingerprints on the cabinet.

Police Colonel Wit Muthasindh said they are now trying to trace the suspect and are appealing for people who recognise him to come forward with information.

He said: "Now we have footage from the shop that is useful for identifying the robber's characteristics. We believe that he is in his mid-thirties.

"We will study the CCTV footage from the supermarket as well so we can how he escaped.''
